We have received a 2011 model Slow Macbook for Repair this week. It was working painfully slow also the trackpad was not clicking.
We knew we have multiple issues and needed to give an accurate quote for the repair so the client could decide if it is worth fixing or would he be better off with buying a new Macbook.

We suspected that there was something pushing the trackpad and causing it to not engage the button. But we were not expecting to be caused by this.

When we took off the bottom cover we could see that the battery was expanded so much that it was pushing the trackpad. This could eventually crack the trackpad.
Trackpads on Macbook are built from a couple of layers of plastic and glass for high sensitivity and can easily get damaged by excessive force or bending.
What is even more concerning is the possibility of this lithium-polymer battery catching fire. Well spotted by NASA engineer David Friedlander back in 2012, expanding batteries are real fire hazards. Hence we advise getting your Macbook serviced on regular intervals to eliminate overheating issues! Call us if you have noticed your Macbook running hot!
As mentioned above battery expansion is caused by excessive heat inside of these encapsulated Macbooks. The same is the cause of the slow working Macbook too.
Repair Process

The heat inside of the Macbook starts degrading the hard drive. Which is very sensitive to constant heat over 70*C for multiple hours at a time.
We discussed all these issues with the customer and quote him for the repair. He was happy to go ahead with repairs and we rolled up our sleeves.
First we have replaced the battery as this battery was fire hazard and we didn’t want it connected to any power source.

We fit only genuine original parts, so we went and installed genuine Apple Macbook Battery on this Macbook Pro. This way we can ensure that customer will have prolonged battery life.

Next was to replace the slow Hitachi hard drive with a high quality Corsair SSD drive which provides an extended performance.
Servicing
Additionally to the SSD upgrade and battery replacement we wanted to ensure that Macbook is well looked after and serviced properly. As the hinges of the screen were very loose.
Over the years the screws on the hinges loosen up, which may result on metal screw bits being loose close to electronic circuits. Which is a short circuit hazard.

After giving it a good clean we have tightened all the screws of the Macbook and installed a fresh operating system.
