Razer Fan noise with rattling sound from the fans

A customer of ours, who uses this Razer for movie editing, has listened to our advice to have his Razer Blade serviced regularly.

As it runs under heavy load at least 10 hours a day, the customer wants to ensure its longevity. Hence he brings it for a regular service annually.

It has been reported on multiple places, and we also experienced multiple cases of Razer Blade experiencing graphic card failures due to overheating.

These Razer Blade have dedicated graphic cards, which overheat a lot when under load. As you have seen from our previous MacBook Graphic repair cases, the repair procedure is tricky, and the prevention of such issues is highly recommended also much more affordable.

Overheating Razer Blade Service Procedure

We took this Overheating Razer Blade apart for servicing, by removing the back cover.

The photo below shows that even the thermal compound we replaced last year is still fresh and performing well. However, the radiators are completely blocked, not helping in air circulation and cooling the system.

Additionally, we have noticed that fans start rattling and making noise when reaching 50-70% load. This seems to be caused by them wearing out over the years, end of the day this is 2015 model Razer Blade which had worked every day on average of 10 hours. Doing heavy graphic calculations.

We have replaced the fan’s with brand new ones, cleaned the heatsink, and then reapplied the thermal paste. This to ensure we will have good cooling for another years or more.

Repaired, not Replaced!

We are committed to reducing e-waste in Australia. How we do it is by educating our customers on the repairability and longevity of their devices, as well as providing affordable Laptop Repairs here in Adelaide.
Although our best intentions and hard work, this is not an easy task. Customers must accept that cost of high-quality electronic repairs, is between a third and half of the price of a new device. However, with the current trend of planned obsolescence in electronic design, we see more and more Laptops having shorter lifespans. To tackle that, while we do our repairs we target common planned obsolescence engineering design mistakes to ensure we extend the life expectancy of the Laptops we repair. Check some of our Laptop Repair Cases to get an idea of the process.

That said, if we buy a new one or write it off via insurance, it does not guarantee that the new one will not meet the same fate as the older one pretty soon.
As matter of fact, quite often we see accidents reoccurring within less than 2-year gaps. If we can save 1000$ or even 500$ today by repairing our faulty Laptop is great. That’s an extra half Laptop cost ready to be spent on another one when the time comes or our need for performance increases.
When that time comes is up to us to buy a new one or keep pushing the one we have, but delaying it by a year or three is always a good starting point and saves another abandoned Laptop from polluting our one and only Planet.
