We get lured into buying Macbooks thinking that aluminium design is making them tougher than the plethora of plastic case laptops out there. Although it has its advantages, especially with the hinge support design compared to laptop hinge issues, we regularly deal with it. However, Macbook screens are not one of them and often require a Macbook Screen Replacement even with a little knock on the screen.

How to identify Model Number of Macbook
But there is no crack or lines on it!?
With the new generation of Macbooks, we do not have a glass screen anymore. What protects the matrix is a thin layer of plastic that flexes when there is an impact on the screen corner or cover. Unfortunately, sometimes even a small pressure on the screen “glass” or back is enough to cause the liquid in these screens to leak out. As a result, rather than having a visible crack, they just turn black.
Other times the ribbon cable which connects the LCD of the screen gets punctured or damaged by debris like bread crumbs or grains of dust, sand, etc. Due to the ribbon cable being part of the LCD assembly, this also requires an LCD replacement, unfortunately. Due to the cable not being replaceable individually.
Do I need a Screen Replacement?
If your Macbook screen looks like these ones here, you will be needing a screen replacement. Check your model year and get a cost idea here.
Accidents happen, buying a new Macbook will not guarantee that it will not happen again. These screens are fragile and they break all the time!
Is it worth replacing Macbook Screen?
This is probably the question that keeps you up at night if you just broke your Macbook Screen. Although you expect a cost of between 700-900$ for a screen replacement, it is still much cheaper to replace the screen rather than “upgrade” to the new Macbook model.
The reasoning behind that is: Accidents happen, and quite often, they happen multiple times. Imagine if you had broken your Macbook screen and upgraded the Macbook for 2000$ because of the screen replacement cost of 800$. What will happen when it breaks again? If Macbook is under a year old, we cannot source affordable screens for them as Apple does not allow us. So your only option will be to go to Apple to have it replaced. That will cost anywhere near 1000$-1500$ to get it replaced by “Authorized Service Centre”.

Repaired, not Replaced!
We are committed to reducing e-waste in Australia. How we do it is by educating our customers on the reparability and longevity of their devices, as well as providing affordable Macbook Repairs here in Adelaide.
Although our best intentions and hard work, this is not an easy task. Customers must accept that cost of high-quality electronic repairs, is between a third and half of the price of a new device. However, with the current trend of planned obsolescence in electronic design, we see more and more Macbooks having shorter lifespans. To tackle that, while we do our repairs we target common planned obsolescence engineering design mistakes to ensure we extend the life expectancy of the Macbooks we repair. Check some of our Macbook Repair Cases to get an idea of the process.
That said, if we buy a new one or write it off via insurance, it does not guarantee that the new one will not meet the same fate as the older one pretty soon.
As matter of fact, quite often we see accidents reoccurring within less than 2-year gaps. If we can save 2000$ or even 1000$ today by repairing our faulty Macbook is brilliant. That’s an extra half Macbook cost ready to be spent on another one when the time comes or our need for performance increases.
When that time comes is up to us to buy a new one or keep pushing the one we have, but delaying it by a year or three is always a good starting point and saves another abandoned Macbook from polluting our one and only Planet.
