As a result, rather than having a visible crack, they just turn black.

Other times the ribbon cable which connects the LCD of the screen gets punctured or damaged by debris like bread crumbs or grains of dust, sand, etc. Due to the ribbon cable being part of the LCD assembly, this also requires an LCD replacement, unfortunately.
