What happened to it | Macbook Pro Repair with no display
Often we see Macbooks which have one issue, and it is straight forward for us to quote the repair upfront. This was no ordinary day.
We had this piece of art and example of a durability 2012 model, 13″ Macbook Pro which was working slow.
We followed the drills and run quick diagnostic on it and hard drive showed failure, as expected on this models.
Less we knew that customer was experiencing intermittent black screens, pointing some issue with the logic board. He decided to let us discover this fault by ourselves.
It was working fine one minute, and the next screen would go off, making it unusable. We quoted the repair based on what we assessed initially – a slow working system.
Now we had a different case in our hands and had to inform the customer, so he can weight if it is still worth repairing. This was probably a faulty screen connection damaged by liquid. As we do get lots of liquid damaged Macbooks, this was nothing new for us. And wanted to ensure the customer is onboarded at every step of the process.

Next step was to take it apart and figure out why we don’t have a screen on it.
We have measured the LCD connector and noticed there was melted pin on the screen connector side which may have shorted and caused screen power lines not to function. We could see under a microscope how it was overheating and have melted the LCD connector corner.
Furthermore, we had to replace the boosting coil of the backlight circuit. It must have been shorted overheating badly due to a short to be able to get damaged.
After replacing the coil we got the picture back and concentrated on the remaining issues with the Macbook

The original issue was that Macbook was working very slow and at times it would take 30min to start.
We re well aware of this issue, being caused by a failing hard drive. And Luckily for this customer his operating system and hard drive was fully responding. Although very slow.
The Result
Full responsiveness of the operating system allowed us to image the drive into the new SSD. Thus allowed customer not to lose any applications or data.
