One of the repairs we have got this week was this 13″ Macbook Pro Retina 2015 A1502 model. These are very popular models and the last of the kind with the nice keyboard before Apple transitioned to butterfly keyboards.
Naturally, customers want to keep these Macbook laptops as long as possible, but accidents happen regardless of how careful one is.
Macbook water spilled repair is a type of repair we do on a regular basis. We have noticed that the faster customer reacts to the liquid damage higher are chances for a successful repair. We took the bottom cover off and could see the traces of the liquid around the screen connector all the way to the battery connector.
Both sections are high voltage and high current sections. The screen backlight of this Macbook model operates at 50V boosted voltage, while the battery is capable to deliver 8A of current. That’s powerful enough to destroy chips and traces if there is an oxidation or water spillage.

We start with the most important area of concern, the power rails. In particular battery and charging circuit sections. A short here would completely disable the power on this Macbook.
And that is exactly what happened, just after a day of the water spillage we could already see massive chunks of oxidation on high power rails.
Most of the capacitors in this area had lost some of their pads due to the corrosion and were not making good contact. While others were shorting causing water spilled macbook to do not turn on.
